Bought a used car last year can I use it?

Yes.  If you purchased a vehicle and paid registration fees to a state that charges tax, you are able to claim the deductible portion of the fees paid.  However, in order to utilize and claim these fees, you must use federal form Schedule A and itemize your deductions.

If you would like to enter this amount into your TurboTax Online return, please follow the instructions below.

  1. Click the Federal Taxes tab
  2. Click Deductions & Credits 
  3. Scroll down to the Cars and Other Things You Own section
  4. Click Start next to Car Registration Fees
