asked: Turbo tax asks if I was 65 years old when I received my HSA distribution. I turned 65 mid year. How should I respond.

The question is only relevant if you did not use all of your HSA distributions for qualified medical expenses, resulting in a taxable distribution.  If you had not yet reached age 65 at the time of the taxable distribution, you were under age 65.

I turned 65 midyear as well.  one non-medical distribution was paid after I turned 65.  how do I split the distributions pre and post 65 in Turbotax?

If the non-medical distribution was made after you turned 65, answer the question "yes" since this is the distribution that would be taxable if you were not.
