Arizona Chartible Donations

Arizona Charitable Donation tax provision permits a dollar for dollar tax credit.  My Arizona state amount due is $787.00 but when I enter that amount into the Turbo Tax program as my Charitable donation to St. Mary's Food Bank.  I get a $20.00 state tax credit reduction.  Why?  Am I missing an entry somewhere else in the Turbo Tax program?

Here are the steps to enter the contribution, in order to populate Form 321.  The contribution you made is under the maximum for a jointly filed return of $938, so this credit should populate based on the information you provided.

Here's how to do this in TurboTax Online:

  1. Navigate to State Taxes > Your State Returns > Arizona> Continue
  2. Continue through the interview until you arrive at Other Nonrefundable Credits, choose Contributions to qualified charities and continue.
  3. Select the date you made the contribution
  4. Enter the details of the contribution, including name of charity, Charity code (See: LIST OF QUALIFYING CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS FOR 2024), amount of donation, and date of contribution.
  5. Continue to see results the credit for contributions to charities.

Use AZ Form 321.  And check for the correct Qualifying Charitable Organization Code for 2024. Organizations may come and go from the list.  If the Code is missing or wrong your AZ Tax Return may be rejected.
