Yes

Medical expenses are the costs of diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or

prevention of disease

, and for the purpose of affecting any part or function of the body. These expenses include payments for legal medical services rendered by physicians, surgeons, dentists, and other medical practitioners. They include the costs of

equipment, supplies,

prescription

drugs

and diagnostic devices needed for these purposes.

Also included is needed travel costs.

They include the costs of

insurance

and deductibles

paid by the taxpayer that pays for medical expenses.

To be a part of itemized deductions the out of pocket medical expenses must be more than 7.5% of adjusted gross income.

It depends. Medical and dental expenses can be deducted if the taxpayer itemizes deductions, and the total amount is over 7.5% of the taxpayers Adjusted Gross Income (AGI). If the adult diapers (incontinence supplies) were purchased to alleviate or prevent a physical or mental disability or illness the expense is deductible. You may want to get a note from the doctor with the diagnosis and statement that the adult diapers are medically necessary to keep with your tax records if the IRS questions the expense.
