Additional realestate property tax

We paid our mortgage in 2020, so the first payment was made by mortgage company, but we wrote check for 2nd payment in December.  When I went to add this to the additional real estate taxes it will not let me key anything in.  I get a blue dot under the line.  This is not a second home but our main home.

You can go back to where you entered the original real estate tax and change it to the full amount. The tax return just shows the final number. It is okay that it does not match the form from the mortgage company.

If the IRS decides to ask about your property tax, you just mail them a copy of your property receipt plus a copy of the form from the mortgage company.

I had the same problem with the property tax I paid during closing/settlement.

It was not included in either 1098 - the one from my original mortgage company or from my new mortgage company. Since I now know that IRS will not compare the amounts and my county tax admin had told me everything was paid, I will do as suggested and change the amount reported. Thanks.
