I entered a QCD amount to count for my RMD on the federal return. This amount should not be entered for the federal Charity deductions but I think it can be deducted on the state Schedule A. If so how do I enter it on the State Form
Which state? Why did you think it should be deductible, if it was not included in the federal AGI that (in most states) transfers to the state return?
This answers it. I was just using tunnel vision on the deduction. Thanks.
Arizona only allows the same Schedule A deductions as the feds. So, no, you can't deduct that on AZ schedule A.
BUT, in researching your answer (I'm not specifically familiar with AZ rules or TT software), I came upon this: AZ also has a tax credit for donations to certain charities. I can find nothing in the wording that would keep a QCD from qualifying.

The Arizona tax return begins with your Federal AGI which already has the QCD excluded. Deducting it as a state itemized deduction would be doubly excluding the income.
I took charitable deductions out of my RMD (QCD) and I understand I cannot list them again as a regular charitable deduction on the federal schedule A. Since these donations are not allow to be listed on the federal they do not show in the state return. When I start my California state return in turbotax a banner at the top of the page states that I can take the those QCD charitable deductions on the state return even if they were not on the federal. However, the schedule CA will not let me make any changes or additions. I cannot claim these charitable deductions. Any solutions????
I do plan on electronically filing the state his year.
