1099 Mileage

At the beginning of the year, I was an independant contractor who will get a 1099. I kept up with my mileage using QuickBooks. When I use an online calculator like TurboTax to figure my refund and claim my mileage it lowers my refund drastically. Is it a legal requirement that I claim these miles or can I not claim mileage and get the higher refund amount?

You are required to report all income and expenses.  That requirement is so that taxpayers do not manipulate their income and expenses to get more earned income credit, for example.
