Worked in 2 states this year but company wasn't notified of move until now

I lived and worked in CO from 1/1 to 6/7.

I moved and work remote for the same company in NC from 6/8 on.

My company recognized me as Work_From_Home_CO until today, 12/16. They are submitting a change request now to switch to NC.

 

How will I file the following:

1) taxes for living and working in CO from 1/1-6/7,

2) credit for CO taxes paid between 6/8 and 12/16, and

3) taxes for living and working in NC from 6/8 thru YE

For 2024, you will file a part year resident tax return for both states. 

On the CO return, you will only calculate CO tax on your income from 1/1-6/7.  You will claim a refund of the excessive withholding (taxes paid between 6/8 and 12/16).

On the NC, you will only calculate NC tax on your income from 6/7 to 12/31.  You will probably have to pay an underpayment penalty for not having enough withheld. 

 

 

For 2025 onward, you will file only an NC resident return.
