Work in PA but Live in MD

Hello I work in PA but Live in MD..

I know that I only need to fill for MD, but is PA supposed to take taxes?

I see in my W2 I paid MD 5022.75 and PA: 3489.75

Should PA be returning the Taxes they took out or not?

if so, how do I do that? 🙂

First, file PA Form REV-419 with your employer to have them cease withholding for PA.  Here's a link to that form:

https://www.revenue.pa.gov/FormsandPublications/FormsforBusinesses/EmployerWithholding/Documents/rev-419.pdf

In order to obtain a refund of the incorrectly withheld PA taxes, you'll have to file a non-resident PA tax return, on which you show the withholding but allocate zero income to PA.

Yes, PA has a reciprocity agreement with MD so that taxpayers only get taxed by the resident state and only need to file that resident return.  To generate the PA non-resident return in TurboTax, in the "My Info" section scroll down to the "Other State income" and answer "Yes" you had income from another state and select "PA".

As @TomD8 states you need to have your employer correct the withholding for the future and then file a non-resident PA return for a PA refund of the taxes withheld.  You may need to do that again for 2024 if withholding has continued thus far.
