I moved to Illinois from Missouri in May 2022. My employer is in Missouri and only withholds Missouri state taxes. I know I need to file both states because I own property in IL, but when I get to the "Allocate your Illinois and non-Illinois amounts" in the Illinois return, I feel like I'm not inputting the correct amounts because I get the following error: "Return cannot be e-filed when the sum of Illinois wages plus out of state wages on all W-2s does not equal total wages reported on IL schedule CR." Perhaps I am misunderstanding what is being asked, but I've tried allocating about half of my wages to Missouri and the other half to Illinois (since I lived in IL for half the year), but this is when I get the error above. I have made sure my math adds up to my total wages, tips, and other comp. If I put all of my wages in the non-Illinois amount, then I owe taxes to Illinois. I'm at a loss. Help!
Check your Credit for taxes paid to another state.
Since you continued to work in Missouri after moving to Illinois, TurboTax may have picked up the full year's Missouri income in that box. However, the only income that is being double taxed is the amount you earned while a resident of Illinois.
