Wisconsin Credit Allowed, MN Resident

MN Resident, Married Joint Return, I work in Wisconsin

Filing my MN tax return and it asks me this question

Wisconsin Credit Allowed

Enter the amount that is from wages or personal service income that you received while a Minnesota resident that was taxed by Wisconsin.

Wages or personal service income received that was taxed by Wisconsin ___________

I have been filing this type of return with TurboTax for years and I have never encountered this question and it has be stumped.  Does it want my stage wages number from box 16 of my W2? and why doesn't it just pull it from the w2 then?

It instantly increases my state return significantly so I want to make sure I am answering this question correctly.

You are doing it correctly by entering the amount from box 16 of the W-2 for the Wisconsin wages.

TurboTax is asking you the question, as it wants to make sure all the wages and other personal service income (that may not always be listed on a W-2) is entered here.

If it pulled the amount over directly from the W-2 it may miss some income for some people.

Did you do the non-resident (WI) return before the resident return (MN), if not, this may be why it did not carry it over.
