Why does TurboTax calculate a Yonkers Resident Income Tax Surcharge when we are not Yonkers residents? How do we eliminate this when we efile?

You must report your Yonkers resident income tax surcharge on your state return if you:

• were a Yonkers resident for the tax year, and
• have to file a New York State return.

If you are not a Yonkers resident, go back through your NY state return and update your answers to the residency questions.  Based on your answers to the Interview questions, TurboTax calculates any residency surcharges due.   To review your state return, click on State from the left side menu (once you are signed into and working on your return) and select Go over NY again.
