Why did I owe state taxes?

I’m on social security and have been for a couple of years. I haven’t needed to pay any state income taxes in the past 2 years. I moved from CO to TX in May 2023.
This year I had to pay income tax, nothing changed with social security income. I did withdraw some money from one of my retirement accounts in Dec of 23 but I did pay the required taxes on that withdrawal. I was a TX resident when I made that withdrawal.

Did you enter the 1099SSA in the correct spot or did you enter it in the spot for the 1099-R?  Are you over 65?  If you are over 65 in CO, then your SS is not taxable.

If your only income while a resident of CO was from SS then you shouldn't have any tax liability.  Did you enter it in the correct spot?

Are you filing a part year resident return?  If so, you should be asked to allocate income to the state.  Here you would remove the retirement withdraw from your CO income since you took the withdraw while a resident of TX.
