Why am I paying more state (Oregon) tax than federal? Is it an indication of some issues with my return?

If my tax liability is higher for Oregon state than for federal, is this some kind of indication that the return is not done correctly? Oregon should have a much lower tax rate than Federal. (My federal liability is about $3900 while Oregon's is $4200.)

You may have federal credits that your state does not offer. This is not too surprising. Take a look at your federal return.

Look for credits:

  • Look at Sch 3
  • Look at 1040, lines 27-29

Your Oregon return begins with your federal 1040 line 11. To see your forms:

My niece files in Oregon.

what you see is not surprising.

Oregon seems to be a high tax state.

I don't know why I still live in Oregon. Nothing is good. We are moving out.
