What is the total sales tax rate for Texas?

I am not sure what I need to put in this spot. It looks like it's showing 6.25 but I'm not sure if that is accurate.

It depends where you live. The Texas state sales and use tax rate is 6.25%, but local taxing jurisdictions (cities, counties, special purpose districts, and transit authorities) may also impose sales and use tax up to 2% for a total maximum combined rate of 8.25%.

See this link to find out what your local tax rate is: http://comptroller.texas.gov/taxinfo/local/

Texas has rates that vary from city to city. You can look up the exact local sales tax rate for the ZIP code in which you live here:

You can look at a receipt for your town since they usually list the rate at the bottom next to the tax.  If you don't see it, you can get your rate at http://www.sale-tax.com/Texas
