I am a resident of MS, but filed as a nonresident for LA. Both of my e-files have already been accepted. However, I am reviewing my tax returns, and I noticed on the Form 80-160 that this message appears: "If you are a resident of Mississippi who earns income in another state and are required to pay an income tax to that other state, you are allowed to
take a credit against your Mississippi income tax due in the same year for the total income tax due to the other state (subject to certain limitations). The
withholding amounts shown on your W-2 forms are NOT the same as actual tax paid to the other state. Copies of withholding statements are not
sufficient to establish the credit. In order to be allowed this credit, you MUST file an income tax return with the other state and attach a copy of the other
state returns along with this Form 80-160 to your Mississippi return."
I thought that e-filing and being accepted means I already did a return. Do I have to print out the physical return (PDF document I got from TurboTax) and mail it to the address listed?
If your e-filed state returns have been accepted, do not send the paper copies. It would cause confusion and delay the processing of your returns.
You do not need to send any other document either. If the tax authorities need anything further, they will write to you.
