W-2 Wages

My daughter is a resident of Pennsylvania but worked in Florida on a college internship. She received a W-2 from the employer that did not reflect any data in the state boxes 15, 16, and 17. When Turbo Tax transferred the Federal information into the Pennsylvania return, as expected, no wages were included and therefore not reflected in gross compensation. The state step by step interview did not give me the opportunity to add the wages. Do I go back to the Federal W-2 and just put the data in, even though the actual document does not reflect it? Or, do I manipulate the state forms to add the data?

The compensation amounts from her W-2 should transfer to and are taxable on her PA state return.  To get the income to transfer over, enter the state code FL in Box 15 (edit the W-2 in the federal section).  You can leave the other boxes blank.  Once there is a state code entered, go back through the PA return again and the compensation will show up.  You can then adjust the amounts on the state return if needed.

As a resident of Pennsylvania, her wages earned in FL are taxable on her state return.

No, do not manipulate this data in TurboTax.  While you are preparing the State of Pennsylvania's return, TurboTax will make sure the income is correctly stated for the state.  Here's how:

  1. While you are in your Tax Home,
  2. Select State from the left side menu,
  3. Select Edit next to your State of Pennsylvania return,
  4. Follow through the on-screen prompts, until you get to this screen, select Edit,
  5. Then select Make this income taxable in PA

This should fix the income for you.

Thanks for getting back to me but I am a bit confused. Where is Tax Home screen? I don't see any screens that appear to be like the print screens you sent.

Now I am even more confused by this answer. Signed on to my online account and there is nothing there regarding my return. I am using Turbo Tax Premier that is downloaded on to my computer via disk.

The answers above are for the Online web version not the Desktop CD/Download program.  You should be able to find the same spots using your program menu items.  Go to the State tab at the top menu line.  Then click start or edit or update by the state you need.

Can someone provide a suggestion for how best to proceed.

I have tried that but it doesn't give me the ability to correct or edit gross compensation. Since W-2 info did not transfer over from the federal return the state step-by-step appears to assume I have none so I can't correct or edit.
