Unable to e-file due to excess NY state withheld. Must mail in return!

Turbo Tax Premier 2022 is not letting me e- file either federal or NY state tax return.

I have a W-2 earnings of $106 and yes- $95 withheld for NY state taxes as I forgot to change the withholding for 2022.  TTAX 2022 states that since withholding is greater than 25% of total income, I must mail the return in. Likewise for federal as it is greater than 50% withholding.  New York state Tax center knows of no such holding percentage to prevent an e-file.

   Any suggestions?

   Thanks in advance!!

I tried to duplicate your situation in TT Home and Business, both online and desktop without success.  However I do believe I can suggest a workaround that should work.

First of all go back to your W-2 input entries and delete the withholding tax that is causing the problem.  Then follow these steps to enter the withholding that is giving you a problem:

  1. Click on deductions and credits and scroll down to Estimates and other taxes paid, click on show more and then click on start or revisit at Income taxes paid.
  2. Scroll down to Other Income Taxes Paid and click on Start at "Withholding not already entered on a W-2 or 1099"
  3. Answer yes
  4. Click in the appropriate Federal and/or state box and enter the amount(s) that is causing the error.

Click continue and the summary page will appear.  If all appears correct click done. You will return to the payments summary.

Thank you Joseph!

I was able to e-file Federal return but will still need to print and mail New York State.

           Thanks again,
