TurboTax didn’t inform to file non resident CA tax for 2023

Hi, TurboTax software failed to inform me that I need to file non resident taxes for CA for year 2023 even though my W2 had details for it.

what’s the process to file it now and do I need to file an amendment for my resident state CO in addition to this or is this step not needed?

You can sign back into your 2023 TurboTax return and select Add a State.  You will be able to get a credit for the taxes paid to California on your Colorado return, so you should amend to get the additional refund and not pay taxes twice on that income.

Compete the California return first, the go back into Colorado and indicate that you need to amend.  Look for the section with credit for taxes paid to another state and add the information (TurboTax should transfer the info from the CA return you just completed.)

Thanks for your help. I was able to follow these steps. However in the last step of e-filing, it is saying that the window has been closed on 15 Oct 2024. Does this means I would need to mail these tax documents to both CO and CA Tax depts. Also do I need to submit the E-filer attachment as well to them.

Yes, you have to mail the returns since you can no longer e-file 2023 returns.   And because you will be filing by mail, you should not have any e-filer attachments to include.
