TT does not calculate city tax for Battle Creek, MI properly.

TT does not calculate city tax for Battle Creek, MI properly. The data transferred from Federal is incorrect, and there is no way to edit it (no right options offered for edit). I've tried to go through all steps twice. What to do?

The problem turned out to be as follows:

1 - somehow the TT created and additional "phantom" W-2  for my spouse with some missing information on it (the original proper W-2 was still there, so where is that extra copy of W-2 came from is a complete mystery to everyone)

2 - when entering information for local taxes for Battle Creek, MI, I've entered the "Locality Name" as "MIBATTLE" -> exactly as it is shown on the W-2. But the TT wants it to be entered as "MI-BCK"

Once the 2 issues above were corrected, everything started to work right.

What is the program doing that you feel is incorrect?

If you live in Battle Creek, you will be taxed on all your personal income.

My spouse is the one who worked in Battle Creek. The TT transfers (and shows) my wages, but is showing 0 for my spouse. Actually, looks lie TT "thinks" that Battle Creek items ally to me, and not my spouse - the questions there are using my name. Therefore - there are "0" taxes calculated at all

Hello. Are you the person that requested an online review that worked in Detroit but husband worked in Battle Creek? I think I answered that if you were but if you weren't, here is a summary of that review. You may need to edit the information in the Battle Creek city return.

To edit the return, go through your Michigan State return. When you arrive at a page that says "A few things before we wrap up your State taxes" select your Michigan City Returns and select revisit. The next screen says live or Work in any of these cities, make sure Battle Creek is checked. Press continue at the bottom. The first return should be Battle Creek. Scroll through the questions and there should be a screen that says Battle Creek Wages and there should be two W2's listed. At this point, select the W2 that has your information listed and select edit. As you scroll through the information, make sure you indicate that your wages are excluded in Battle Creek. When you select edit next to your W2.

  1. First it will ask you if you are a resident of Battle Creek indicate non-resident
  2. The next screen is entitled Battle creek Wage information here you will record the name of the employer and that you worked for them for the entire year.
  3. The next screen regarding employment dates, leave blank
  4. Next screen says income earned in Battle Creek, was any earned in Battle Creek, indicate no.
  5. At this point, only your husband's wages should be counted as Battle Creek wages.                                                                                                                         ,

Yes, MI-BCK is the correct entry for the locality.
