The Wisconsin Homestead Credit adds complication to my return that I hadn't anticipated. Is there a way I can bypass it and not take the credit?

Yes, there is.  If you need to remove the homestead credit from your Wisconsin return in TurboTax Online: 

1. Select Tax Home in the left pane
2. On the  Hi, let's keep working on your taxes! screen, select the dropdown on the right side of the State Taxes box, then select Start, Continue, Pick up where you left off, or Review/Edit
3. If you land on a Wisconsin interview page, select Let's get started, Continue or other similar prompt.  Otherwise, in the left pane, select Prepare State, then proceed through the Wisconsin screens
4. Proceed through the state screens until you get to the Homestead Credit Claim page
5. Select Continue, then provide answers that will disqualify you for the credit.      See Do I qualify for homestead credit? on Wisconsin's Claiming Homestead Credit page for qualifying information.

Don't worry, you're not perjuring yourself by entering disqualifying information.  The state doesn't see this response -- your answer simply disqualifies you for the credit within the TurboTax program.
