You can check to see what forms are available and when the other forms will be available for CA by clicking here: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/forms/help/state-forms-availability-table-for-turbotax-individual-personal-tax-products/00/26227

The availability of forms in this listing for efiling is pretty useless as most of the forms show either available or unsupported. Not sure what that means. Do all the state forms need to be available in order to e-file? Something doesn't seem right.

Same here. They don't say which forms are not ready. We're already in February.

Yes all the forms need to be available in order to e-file. If a form says unsupported that means the form is not supported in the method you want to file (i.e. not available for e-file).

If that is the case, the Form 8453 & federal schedule A which are needed to efile for the st of ca thru TT is unsupported so then that would mean I cannot efile thru your software.  Please confirm.

Update for me:

This seems to be specific to Turbotax. I filled my taxes using both Turbotax and H&R block to test. Got same amount of refund for federal and state, but was only able to file with H&R block.....

can you please have a answer for my question from yesterday regarding filing of St of CA taxes. The needed forms are not available in TT? Please advise and confirm how this should be handled. Pretty irritated

"Unsupported" has three meanings:

  • TurboTax has not received the state forms yet so TurboTax can't estimate at this point when the forms may be available in the product
  • The state is not going to provide the forms, so TurboTax will never support the form
  • The state will not enable the form for e-filing, so TurboTax can't make it available for e-filing

Which California form are you asking about?

Surely you are not trying to file all of these forms. I was asking which California form on your return were you asking about.

In the case of "Form 8453, Online e-file Return Authorization", It doesn't make sense to e-file this form, because it is the paper copy for your records that you consented to have TurboTax e-file your return.

Form 3582 is used to accompany your check when you owe money and you print and mail the return. Again, it would make no sense to e-file this form.

If you would look at this California website, you will see the only forms that California will accept for e-filing. Any forms not on this list that are part of the California return will be listed in TurboTax as "unsupported" because the state will not accept them.

The most unusual thing this year is that California will not accept Schedule C (sole proprietorship) by e-file this year; all California returns with a federal Schedule C have to be printed and mailed this year.

I don't know which form is unavailable. When I try to save to PDF or preview print copy I get the following:

Your california return(s) is currently unavailable to view, print or download because some the the forms haven't been finalized.

My federal forms are only the following"

1040-SR

Schedule B

Schedule D

So I'm at a loss why I cannot file the state in TT

Please try this. Go to the State Review for California and run the Review. See if the Review will tell you which California forms are not ready.

I did file> preview-it did show the tax return

These are the forms listed for 2019 California Tax Return:

Form 8453-OL

Form 540

Schedule CA (540)

Schedule D (540)

Schedule A:

Form 1040-SR

Schedule B

Schedule D

Didn't indicate which forms were not available. Could not determine where else to do a state review separately.

I think it's Schedule D that is not final for the State of CA?

Still unable to file CA return due to the "...government is still working on finishing up certain tax forms that are in your 2020 tax return."

From the list I'm surmising that the form (CA 3853) will be available on Feb. 11, 2021

Thank you for your help.

I'm also having issues submitting my CA state return.

When I view the California Individual Form Availability list, form CA 8453-OL is listed as "unsupported".

This is confusing, considering it's the form that allows for e-filing. I attempted to use the Tax Tools feature in TT to delete the form from my submission, but that is also not working. When I choose to delete the form, the form is not being removed.

Does someone know how to either delete form CA 8453-OL or get around this submission issue for CA?

Are you getting an error message?  Please respond here for further assistance.

This form is just for you to print and sign and keep for your files.  You do not need this form to e-file, and you won't e-file this form with your return.
