State tax carryover from prior year

I am a first year user with Turbo Tax, previously had taxes done by an accountant.  Where do I enter the refund that was applied to the first quarter.  i understand that normally Turbo Tax would carry forward this information, but since it's my first time using Turbo Tax, need to make sure the refund from last year is applied to this years taxes due.

The overpayment from your 2020 tax return that you applied to 2021 will serve as a credit against your 2021 tax liability and has to be entered in TurboTax.

You can enter the amount applied to your 2021 state tax by following these steps:

  1. In TurboTax, open your tax return
  2. Click on Federal in the left-hand column, then Deductions & Credits on top of the screen
  3. Scroll down and locate the section named Estimates and Other Taxes Paid and click Show more
  4. Click on Start next to Income taxes Paid
  5. On the next page, click Start next to 2020 refund applied to 2021 state taxes.

I did not see my state tax carryover from 2022 return reflected in tax payments for 2023,

If your state refund was applied to this year's taxes and you do not see it on the state return, you can enter the amount. Follow these steps:

  1. Open your program to federal deductions and credits
  2. Locate Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
  3. Select Other Income Taxes
  4. Locate 2022 taxes applied to 2023
  5. Select refund applied to state taxes
  6. Select the state
  7. Enter the amount

I had the exact same thing happen to me.  TTax had always carried these overpayments forward for me.

I made a real mess of my returns and tax situation.  Now I am having to refile for many years.

Am I responsible at the end of the day for the return.  Yes.  But this is beyond the pale.  Probably the last year I will use TTax.  This is an unforgivable error.
