State Tax and Part-time Resident

I have a home in Indiana, but I work in Illinois.

For the first 5 to 6 months of 2024, I stayed/lived with my adult son to help him with a medical injury in Illinois, while my wife and younger child lived in Indiana.

Can I claim part-time residency for IN and IL state tax since I lived in IL for 6 months for the first half and 6 months in IN for the second half?

After reviewing the rules specific to these two states, and your circumstances, it appears that you should file as a full-year resident of Indiana, since your stay in Illinois was temporary in nature and you didn't abandon your home in Indiana.

Since you worked and earned income in Illinois while you were temporarily there, you can file a nonresident return in Illinois instead of a part-year resident.
