You may need to file a Michigan non-resident tax return if you earned income from a Michigan source. This is especially true if Michigan income taxes were withheld from your wages.

Indiana-sourced income would be reported on an Indiana state income tax return. Again, if Indiana income taxes were withheld, a state return is required.

Finally, California taxes all income for residents of the state, regardless of source. We recommend that you complete the interview for your non-resident states (Michigan and Indiana) before you begin the interview for California. This allows TurboTax to calculate and apply any tax credits for state income tax paid to other states.
