Remote worker moved out of state (LA) mid year. Employer is based in a NC but Ive never lived there.

As the subject reads I lived in LA for 6 months in 2024. Then i moved out of the country but continued my same job. The entire year I worked remotely for a company based in NC. I only received a W2 from that company.

When selecting residency status for LA state taxes an info bar came up that read "Part-year residents have the option to file a resident or nonresident return, whichever is more beneficial."

Does this mean that I can file my LA state taxes as a non resident instead of part year resident, since it is more beneficial to me?

Yes, if it is more beneficial, you can file as a Louisiana nonresident.  With the nonresident return, you only report and pay income tax on Louisiana-based income. It is usually better when you moved to or from a state with no income tax.
