Railroad Retirement Distributions Form RRB-1099-R

Keep getting message "Schedule 1:  Social Security Benefits/RRB 1099-R.   We're still working on updates related to Railroad  Retirement Distributions that qualify for disaster or covid relief.  Keep working on your return and we'll remove this message when it's ready"

We do not receive  Railroad Retirement Distributions.  We only receive Social Security.  I finished my taxes and went through the process to E-File.  Then Turbotax does a check again and takes me back to the above message.

Why?

I'm getting the same thing.  But it's highlighting the portion of my social security benefits that are exempt from GA taxes and is preventing me efiling my taxes.   I dont get Railroad retirement benefits and all my entries are correct.

@PajeDr Review your Social Security benefits input.  The RRB-1099 and SSA-1099 are entered on the same screen.  Make sure you checked the box for Social Security Benefits.

I do have the Social Security box  checked.  Not the Railroad Retirement.  I have gone back over everything several times.  Reviews says everything in Federal is correct ready to file.  At first, Georgia review goes all the way to the end and then when I click e-file I get that message and it won't let me file.

Try deleting the GA return and re-adding then go through the state return again.  This might clear the problem and enable you to e-file the GA return.  At the state return menu, select delete next to the GA state return then re-add and complete.

The American Rescue Plan was signed into law on March 11. This will include a third stimulus package. If you had issues receiving your earlier stimulus, then the best way to ensure that you are one of the first to receive future stimulus payments is to file your 2020 tax return as early as possible and use direct deposit so that the IRS will have your updated information.

You can find the most up to date information from the IRS here, and read more from TurboTax here.

I did use a remove state tax return button in TT and it supposedly removed it, but when I reinstalled the GA return, it re-populated with the previous data.  Same result.  Won't efile. Under the search button, I have learned that you can't delete a state return that you have already paid for, which I have.

You could try this also.  Review your forms in TurboTax.  Try deleting the social security benefits worksheet then re-entering it back in TurboTax.  I suggest also  have logging out of TurboTax, clearing your browser cache and cookies, logging back in, then re-enter your Social Security benefits.  While you are in the forms area, look for anything that might have railroad associated with it.

While in your return in TurboTax:

  • In the left hand column select "Tax Tools"
  • Select "Tools"
  • Select "Delete a form"
  • Review for Social Security Benefits Worksheet
  • Delete selected form then "Back"
  • Log out of TurboTax
  • Clear Browser Cache and Cookies
  • Log back in and re-enter SSA-1099

Cookies are small files that temporarily store data on your computer. We use them to personalize your experience so you see information you already entered and not items that are irrelevant or repetitive. On rare occasions, they may make your browser think you already did something that you still need to do. To fix that, you'll need to delete (clear) the cookies from your browser. Each browser has a slightly different method for deleting cookies. Choose the browser you're using:

I did exactly as you described above, deleting form and clearing cache and bookmarks.  Also, deleted the related worksheet on the GA form.  Then checked for updates.  None.  Then re-entered everything in TurboTax.  Still got the same result.  It says theyre  still working on it as indicated above in my previous post.  Again, all the data is correct.  But it won't let me efile both returns simultaneously.

I meant to say I cleared the cache and cookies.

The error message keeps saying they are waiting on an update. If so, all this cache clearing business is nonsense. When will this update occur? Both my Fed and GA filing are being held hostage, when I have already paid my $25.00 GA filing fee. (which is an outrageous 25% increase over previous years). Why was I not alerted to this error before being told to pay for the filing? Is this a scam being perpetrated by Intuit to hold my money without earning it by completing this filing?

I have this same issue and need to transmit my return. I have also already paid to file the Georgia return.

I finally got through to a Turbotax representative by phone a couple of days ago. After consulting with her supervisor, the rep advised me to delete the Covid relief form  as the possible solution. They also advised that there was no pending update on this problem. After deleting the Covid relief form, I ran the final review again, and instead of having 1 error, now had 4 errors.  So, still no solution to the software glitch.  As of now, I have no choice but to wait closer to the filing deadline to see if there's some possibilty of a fix to the problem, and if not, I will print out a copy of my state taxes and mail it in. Then, call TurboTax and get a refund of my efile fees.  It's been a pain in the behind to spend all this time trying to fix a problem that is no fault of mine since all entries are correct and all updates have been downloaded.

I don't understand why TT won't fix what is clearly a program bug or glitch on its part. Fortunately, Georgia has extended its filing deadline to May 17 to match IRS. I'll wait a while longer to see if anything happens to correct this. I have used TT for over 20 years and never had a problem like this. Does anyone at TT read these posts? All I get are emails congratulating me for reading posts and getting a thumbs up. We need help, not platitudes!

The GA section is being reworked. I don't know the timeline.

Apparently Turbo Tax Experts are sending out mixed messages about this problem, based on a previous post I read. I know that there are many changes afoot with both Fed and state tax rules and regulations right now, and I would have been happy to wait for an update if I had not already paid my fee.  I had to wait at one point for a another form update before I could continue.  However, please understand that my biggest gripe with TT right now is that it let me get all the way through both Fed and State, did a review, told me it was ready to file, allowed me to initiate filing, including paying my state filing fee, and then, and only then, did it run one last review and throw up this error which is unfixable on the user's part. This is poor, poor customer service and smacks of deceit.

I have this exact problem in GA and am terribly disappointed in the lack of support.  I have been using TT for 20 years without problems.  This has me pulling my hair out trying to help my FIL with his filing.

I'm having the same issue. Already paid for e-filing and the Check This Entry Railroad Retirement Distributions error prevents me from filing.

TT Twitter Support just wrote:

“This issue should be fixed. You would want to make sure your TurboTax program is fully up to date and also check to make sure your computer/operating system is up to date.

Testing tonight...

I am having the same problem with my Georgia returns.  I had a tax pro check it and the information is entered correctly.  I checked at 02:00 pm today and I got an update finally.  However it did not clear this issue up.  The tax pro said it was a software problem with Turbo Tax.  I am very disappointed with Turbo Tax for the first time in many, many years of use.  I can't file my taxes because of their error and I will be very reluctant to use Turbo Tax next year.  I expect much better from them.

I have opened TT 3 times today and no updates were provided for download. Problem is still here.

Last update provided was three days ago. My system (Windows 10), Wi-Fi, etc., all working and up to date.

Has anyone TT Twitter Support's claim to be true today?

Having not messed with TurboTax since last week, I booted up last night (Monday)  and I did get a March 18 program update.  But as others have said already, it did not fix the false error and would not allow me to efile my Ga stare return.  I also looked at TurboTax help site on Twitter and they are bombarded with complaints from people who are having problems getting there Covid checks due to delays or wrong bank accounts.  I'm just saying that may be a higher priority for them. I don't know.
