Question Regarding Virginia State Employee Subtraction

I started working part time for a Virginia state agency (VSP) in December 2024, and I noticed on TurboTax that there's a subtraction for Federal and State Employees if they made less than $15K for the entire year salary. I would qualify for that portion, but I'm unsure if I qualify as a state employee for this benefit as it primarily mentions higher education state employees. Does anyone know if a position like mine qualifies for the subtraction? Thanks!

Yes, you can qualify for the subtraction if your total income for the year from all employment is $15,000 or less. The examples provided on the state website mention higher education, but the subtraction is not limited to higher education employees.
