PSO Health care deduction- is amending your 1040 a problem?

I have been using Turbotax for many years....also a retired PSO in 2005...I just found out about the...2023 change that allows up to 3000 dollars paid from the individual to be deducted ( instead of the agency) for medical insurance...  I filed my taxes early....and so I missed it this year.....and last year........has anyone amended their returns to use this new deduction.........if so......any tricks or problems in reducing the taxable pension amount.....any information would be greatly appreciated....I have never amended my taxes before but...it is worth the time to save some money.....1040x.............thanks again

I will note that the change in 2023 no longer required that the pension administrator make the up to $3,000 health insurance premium payment directly to the insurance company, but now allows you to make the payment, too.

However, you still have to have taxable pension income for the $3,000 to be applied against. This may not be an issue for you, but I have seen already a taxpayer who could not get the deduction, and it was because he/she had no taxable pension income to apply it to.

Good luck with the 1040X.
