Part-Year or Non-Resident?

I am a resident on of Georgia. I transferred with my job to a NY site temporarily. During that time I stayed with a relative. I used their address for my W-4 when transferring. If I liked it, I would have asked to stay at that location. I didn't, after 102 I went back home and transferred back to my GA site. When filing, am I non-resident of NY or a Part-time resident? TurboTax only allows for you to enter the date you moved to or from a state, but in this case I temporarily went to a state, and came back in 102 days.

You are a nonresident of New York, not a part-year resident. File a nonresident tax return. You won't have to worry about dates, because you didn't actually move. You just worked in New York temporarily.

Here is a link to the definition of a resident on the New York Department of Taxation and Finance web site.

In the Personal Info section of TT, enter GA as your State of Residence.  Answer No to the question about living in another state.  Enter the income you earned in NY as "Other State Income."  Then, when you prepare your state returns, be sure to complete the non-resident NY state return first, before you do your home state GA return.  That way you'll receive a credit on your GA return for the taxes paid to NY.

GA can tax ALL your income, including what you earned in NY.  NY can tax only the income you earned from working in NY.
