PA state taxes and retirees

Do retirees have to file PA state taxes? I was told by a non-professional that you do not if you are no longer going to work.

That really depends on what kind of income you have now.   PA does not tax Social Security or certain kinds of retirement income, but it would be possible for you to still have some sort of income taxable in PA even if you are not "going to work."

Only social security. I was told that the social security income would only require a federal tax filing. It surprised me and I wasn't sure if it was true.

@knn22 If your only income is Social Security you do not have to file a federal tax return either.

Who has to file?
