PA Nonresident W2 Additional Information Statement

Hi TurboTax,

I lived in New Jersey for the entirety of 2024, and had jobs in both NJ and PA that year. I also earned some interest income, and received a 1099-INT in the mail. When filing the PA nonresident return, I am asked "Any Special Pennsylvania W-2 situations?", to which I check off "You earned income in another state." On the next screen, I am told to "prepare a w-2 additional information statement", and that I must "send in forms w-2 with my PA tax return"

What W2 information should I provide on the additional information statement, if any? I only have the option to enter in text line by line, not upload any files here.

First, Pennsylvania and New Jersey have a reciprocal agreement.  Unless the Pennsylvania job withheld Pennsylvania taxes, you don't need to file a Pennsylvania non-resident income tax return. Just file with New Jersey and report all of the income as if it were earned in New Jersey.

If you are filing the Pennsylvania non-resident return only to get a refund of Pennsylvania tax, you will file the return with zero income, just the withholding. If this is the case, file a paper non-resident return with PA. Show no income at all, just the withholding and attach your W-2.  Include a brief statement explaining you were a full-year New Jersey resident who had PA tax withheld in error.

Here is some more information: Which states have reciprocal agreements?

Thanks. Would I still have to file a nonresident for Pennsylvania if I worked in Philadelphia and paid their City Wage Tax?

No, you would not have to file a PA non-resident return just because you worked in the city, however, if you worked in the city of Philadelphia, you may have to file a Philadelphia City Return. The state returns are separate from the city returns. This cannot be done through TurboTax.  You would need to do this through the Philadelphia Department of Revenue
