Opting out of e-filing CA return

We live in CA.  TT keeps telling us there is an error on our CA return.  There isn't so there's no way to correct it.  We want to opt out of e-filing our state return, but TT appears not to allow that, instead insisting it will deduct the CA e-filing fee from our refund.  NO!  Why are we being forced to pay to e-file a CA return that may be rejected?  Please help.

Are you using the Online version or the Desktop program?

For Online, To not pay for state you can delete it.  How to delete the state,

Or you can tell it to mail state when you go through the File tab.  Then it won't charge you.  And you don't have to have it deducted from your refund.  There is a Extra $40 Refund Processing Service charge (45 in California) for that.  Go back through the File tab and select to pay with a credit card.
