I moved to Oklahoma from California in June. I have been receiving a pension from California. California continued to tax me on my pension July through December. I didn't render services in California and they did not withhold for Oklahoma. I am retired.
The help on the PC software states:
Complete this schedule if all of the following apply:
* The taxpayer is a resident or part-year resident,
* The taxpayer received income for work performed in a state other than Oklahoma while he/she was an Oklahoma resident, AND
* The other state also taxed the income
I did not perform work in California but did receive my pension and was taxed on it by California.
Would it be allowable for me to apply for this credit?
No, this is for the credit on taxes paid to another state. Retirement income, by federal law, is only reported and taxed in your resident state so you will have to allocate the income between California and Oklahoma. Because California withheld all year, you should receive a refund because only half is ultimately taxed by California. In contrast, you may owe Oklahoma tax on the retirement income but the credit you are referring to does not apply.
