NY Residency Q: My W2 lists Long Island as permanent address. But I also live in an apartment in NYC for grad school. Do I also list NYC residency with Long Island?

FYI, I am not a dependent and I earn a stipend for graduate school.  Also the apartment is not part of student housing.

If you are "maintaining an abode" according to NY statutes, (an independent apartment, not student housing, is an abode per NY statute), and were physically present in New York City at least 184 days in the year, then, yes, you will also state that you are a New York City resident.  (This is called being a statutory resident).  You will be responsible to pay NYC resident tax on income earned in NYC.
