Name Change and Filing Taxes

I changed my last name on May 1st of 2024 after I got married. I went to the social security office and received my new card. I changed everything else to my new name afterwards.

I'm aware when I file my next tax return with my new name, the IRS will update their records accordingly for the federal return using the name on my social security card.

Do I have to notify Minnesota for my state return? Or will they also update records with Minnesota accordingly when I file using the name on my social security card?

Minnesota will use the social security administration database to match your social with your new last name based on your tax return entry, you do not have to contact them before you file your tax return.
