My wife and I live in different states (WA, UT) and both made income. I'm getting an error for the deductible sales tax that we lived in both states all year. Help?

Is this based on total income? Because obviously only her income would be for Utah and mine would be Washington.

No, it is not based on income. It is based on the dates entered first in "My Info"  indicating you lived in WA all year while your spouse lived in UT all year.  When making the sales tax entries those dates were probably confirmed/re-entered.

If you are filing a joint return you will need to choose between the sales tax paid to WA for the full year considering all income or the income tax paid to UT based on your spouse's income there.
