My W2 has CA SDI in box 14. This amount is part of box 1 number. When I enter this number in turbotax and let it recognize that it is CA SDI, it does not reduce my tax!

No matter, what number I enter for CA SDI in box 14, it does not change my refund! Even though it shows up on schedule A, it does not change the refund.

AThat usually is an indication that your income is high enough that you are subject to the Alternative Minimum Tax. When you are subject to the AMT, many ordinary deductions such as property tax and state income taxes, such as SID, don't work any more. They reduce your ordinary income tax, but are added back to your AMT income and there is no net change in tax. Once you are subject to the AMT, there is no way around it.
