My son entered into the Coast Guard in July 2020 and is stationed in Buffalo, NY. For some reason the have been taking out NJ Income tax since Hi start Date. He had no income while living at home in NJ prior to starting with the Coast Gurad. How should h

Military members are taxed by their State of Legal Residence (SLR), not the state where they are stationed.

 

The Coast Guard was correct to withhold NJ tax.  He files only an NJ return.
