My return shows penalty and interest. I live in CA and have Disaster Relief provisions that apply, how do I suppress the penalties and interest?

On which tax return are you seeing penalties and interest?

The federal tax return would only have an Estimated tax penalty on Line 38 of the Form 1040 if you did not pay enough federal income taxes during the 2022 tax year.  There would not be any penalties or interest reported on the federal tax return for paying taxes after the due date of the tax return.

On form 2210 - check the box that says to let the IRS calculate the penalty.

Then near the bottom of the form there is a tiny explanation box.  Click on it and type FEMA Disaster Zone Area - no penalties.

That is what the woman at HR Block told me this morning.

No explanation is needed.

IRS promisses to provide penalty relieve based on your filing address.
