My "Refunds Received for State/Local Tax Returns" that is showing up in my 2020 column is doubled what it should be and I am unable to edit this. Why?

My "Refunds Received for State/Local Tax Returns" that is showing up in my 2020 Column is doubled what is entered.  Every time I try to edit it, it still shows as double the amount.

It may be that you entered the refund amount in TurboTax and it also got carried over automatically from the previous year. I suggest you use the following menu tabs in TurboTax to see if you can find the duplicate entry and reverse it:

  1. Deductions and credits
  2. Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
  3. Visit All

Work through that section until you come across a page that say Estimates and Other Income Taxes Paid. Look through the entries mentioning state taxes and see if there is a wrong amount entered anywhere and delete it.

Early in tax season, there was an issue with entering 1099-Gs (unemployment and state refunds) especially on mobile devices. The issue was that the forms were duplicated so the amount was doubled.

That issue was fixed; however, TurboTax did not remove the duplicate entry in case it wasn't actually a duplicate. The taxpayer needed to find the "duplicate" and determine if it really was a duplicate and then delete it.

So do a Search (upper right) for 1099-g and click on the jump-to link (Mac users must find 1099-G in the Topics List).

If there are more than one 1099-G forms, then open each of them and determine if there is a duplicate and then delete it by using the Delete button or the trash can icon.
