My daughter received W-2 of $1,092.00 from on-campus job where she attends full time. Only MA State tax WH. She lives in NJ and had $25k summer earnings from NYC job. TT won't let skip filing MA non-resident return but it will cost $45?

If you're a nonresident with an annual Massachusetts gross income of more than either $8,000 or the prorated personal exemption, whichever is less, you must file a Massachusetts tax return.   You can delete the MA return if it is not required to be filed.

You can delete your state return by following these instructions.

Note: If you've already paid your TurboTax state fees or registered your free version with your state return attached, you can't delete your state return.

  1. Sign in and open a section of your return.
  2. From the menu, select State and then select Continue on the Let's get your state taxes done right screen.
  3. On the Status of your state returns screen, select Delete next to your state, then answer Yes.
