Moved Permanently from NJ to WA in july 2020. Continue working for the same company located in NJ. Do i need to do both part resident and non resident for nj state tax?

Hello all,

I recently permanently move from NJ to WA in July 2020. However I continued working for the same employer located in NJ from July to December. Do I need to file 2 forms under NJ? 1040 and 1040NR. This is what suggested from TurboTax. What about next year? I still work for the same company in NJ but I am not domicile in NJ.. so I still need to file a NJ1040NR?

If you had any NJ state source income after you moved to WA, you would have to file a NJ PY and NR return.  If you did not have NJ income, you do not have to file the NR NJ return.

The location of the company does not make it NJ income if you worked in Washington state, it would be WA income.  You would not have to file if you only had WA income.

So I remain working at the same company in NJ. The company approved me to work 100% remote.  Is that considered as nj income? There are no other NJ income other than employment with that company.

No, New Jersey does not tax remote workers who are residents of another state, so you do not have to report it as NJ income.  You can file only the PY NJ return to report the income you earned while you lived in New Jersey, and since Washington does not have an individual income tax you do not have any other filing for 2020 (and 2021 if you do not move).
