Hello everyone,
I'm experiencing a bit of confusion when filling out my MA nonresident/part year tax return. I work for a company based in MA. Last year, I lived in MA from the start of the year until the start of September, after which I moved to Rhode Island to work remotely.
What's currently tripping me up are the questions asking for whether income is "Massachussetts sourced" or not. For example, one of the first questions it asks is to enter the "non-Massachussetts" portion of the amount paid to Social Security, railroad, retirement, etc. in 2022. From my federal return, it autopopulated the amount from Social Security and Medicare tax withheld for the entire year, which is approximately 12k. As the company is based in MA, is it still considered MA sourced, and I should be inputting 0 for the "Non-MA Portion"? Or do I apportion the 6k amount based on the time I did not live in MA (approximately 4k for the 1/3 of the year I lived and became a RI resident)?
