Moved from DC to VA

I bought a home in Virginia and moved into that home on January 13, 2023. Before then, we were living in an apartment in DC. Are we considered part-year residents of DC? I was using turbotax deluxe and something must have went wrong as when I chose part-year resident, the tax we owe to DC is way more than what we earned from our paycheck when we were in DC the first two weeks of 2023.

Yes. Officially you were domiciled in DC for 2 weeks but your tax should be on just that 2 weeks of income. Be sure you properly allocated the DC income. DC starts with the federal AGI so the form subtracts income received during non-residence. The process feels a little backwards so you may have entered DC income instead of the opposite.
