Moved back and forth. Confused about my state residency status

I lived in Maryland form January to end of April in 2017. Then moved to DC for 5 months and moved back to Maryland in the middle of October. For state tax returns, I am confused about my residency status. When I file my DC tax return, am I a nonresident or part-year resident? For Maryland tax return, am I a part-year resident?

Hi zhan1512, did the advice below work for you?

You will file a part-year return for both states.

But I lived in DC for less than 183 days. Should I be considered as a nonresident for DC tax return?

This link gives a little more clarity on this situation. <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3301816">https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3301816</a>

The link is not working and this question has not been answered. I have similar situation and TT only gives you one "from date to date" option. What the heck!?

You are a resident of the state where you were living on December 31, 2020.  You are a part-year resident of the other states that you lived in during 2020.  TurboTax will ask the dates when you lived in each state and use those dates to determine how much money was earned in each state.
