My federal return was accepted pronto but my MN state tax return has been rejected twice for the same two reasons:
- "M1 line 5, if present, then dependent must be present and must match dependents on 1040" ... I had one dependent, my son, on the 1040 (married filing joint). I indicated the one dependent on the M1 return, line 5. I don't get what is wrong here. (My son is now 19 and a freshman in college, but for most of 2021 he was living with us.)
- A second error message says "M1 line C must equal federal unemployment." Again, the numbers on the M1 and 1040 are identical for the unemployment in 2021.
Anyone have suggestions?
I received a rejection from the state of MN return today as well with the same error (shown below). I've verified that the dependents listed for the State M1 form match what I have on the Federal 1040. I suspect this is an issue with TurboTax and the data they are submitting. Interested in the answer to this one.

I just spoke with a TurboTax representative who told me to print out and mail-in the MN return. I am doing that. Apparently there are glitches or disconnects somewhere down the line and I've got better things to do than to wait for those things to get ironed out.
