Missing employer's state ID number on W2

We are in Illinois state and have not been able to send the e-file for tax return due to missing employer's state ID number on W2. We called employer and have been said they don't have a state ID and it should be fine without it. However, the turbo tax has asked for employer's state ID to complete e-file before sending it.  What should we do to make our e-file works when my W2 missed employer's state ID number?  Please help!

Yes, you can still e-file. I recommend using the Federal EIN, which is often used for the state EIN.

My small church does not have a state employer ID when filling my fed and state my e-file.   I tried to put in the church's Federal Employer ID but the program said it can be only 6 digits for the state and cannot be all zeroes.  Any recommendations?

You really do not need this number to file your tax return;  Although it is preferred that you use an employer's state ID number if you have one, it's not essential if you don't. Leave it blank if there is none available.
