Minnesota charitable contributions on form M1M

TurboTax put a dollar amount on line 18 of Minnesota schedule M1M which is the income subtraction for charitable contributions over $500. According to the instructions, this line is figured using schedule M1SA, whether you file it or not (I did not). The instructions for schedule M1SA where you enter qualified charitable contributions says, "If you filed federal Schedule A ..." Since I did not file Schedule A, why is TurboTax filling in a dollar amount here? I have submitted a question to the Minnesota Dept. of Revenue to get this clarified, as well.

Question about M1M form - line 7 under MN Individual tax form; I have a $1300 church donation. I understand the Federal uses std deductions but I read the state and your forms  as the 1300 can be claimed under MN BUT last year it was audited by MN and required to be eliminated? Can I claim this if I used std deductions or should it be eliminated? This amount gets reduced down to $400.00?

If these are legitimate contributions you made throughout the tax year, there's no reason that you shouldn't claim the deduction on your state return.

And, yes -- your $1,300 in contributions, minus the $500 threshold, divided by two, would bring your benefit amount down to $400.
