Married filing separately- automatically adding spouse’s agi to mine

Two questions. This year my husband and I are filing married filing separately. We live in CT full time but I work in MA and my husband works in CT so I had to download MA for state taxes. When I was getting towards the end, it asked for my husband’s AGI. I hadn’t done his taxes yet so I opened a new tax form and started on his. When I tried to file, it said he needed to fill out MA. Why would he need to do MA if he doesn’t work there and we are filing separately? Once I got his AGI I went back to mine, put it in, and when I checked for errors I got this message: Explanation Statement: Total income on Form 1-NR/PY, line A exceeds total income on Form 1-NR/PY, line 14f by more than 10%. Massachusetts requires an explanation for this. It added my husbands AGI to mine for line A so it is a much higher number than just my income on line 14f. Any help would be great.

Just a guess - I suspect that the program "thinks" that you are both filing an MFS return in MA and thinks that you're working on his MA return.
